Research

Lehigh University Ned Heindel ProjectNed's research interests are in the design and synthesis of therapeutic candidates. Recently his medicinal chemistry team has worked on topical anti-inflammatories for burns and blisters, selective inhibitors of acetylcholinesterase and induced-nitric oxide synthase, and vasopressin antagonists. Through multi-site collaborations with pharmacologists and clinicians, screening results are obtained which have led to structure-activity correlations and hence to iterated structures with improved activity. Heindel's medicinal chemistry laboratory has been funded by State (Pennsylvania), Federal (NIH), Foundations, and corporate sponsors and has generated 18 patent filings, of which four have been licensed to pharmaceutical industry.

Professor Heindel is shown conducting a drug project in his private laboratory.
